Reimagining Kashmir

Project

Project Jazba

Date

2021

Location

Jammu and Kashmir, India

Lives Impacted

8,000+ residents across border villages; 200+ locally owned enterprises launched

Co-founded by Mohit Raj and Saanchi Marwaha in 2021, Project Jazba addresses how communities living along the Line of Control in North Kashmir—shaped by generational trauma, surveillance, and exclusion—can rebuild identity and agency through local enterprise. The initiative identifies young people and women who wish to lead change within their own villages and supports them to design livelihoods rooted in dignity and ownership.

Jazba integrates direct capital support, three-stage enterprise training (startup, scale-up, sustainability), mental health support, and market linkages—demonstrating how economic empowerment and psychological restoration can work together in conflict-affected settings. All models are designed to be adaptable by local institutions and state programs.

What it led to: Formal government recognition and national media coverage for offering a scalable, community-led model of livelihood transformation in high-conflict zones.
